Ice Cream Fruit Smoothie (GF)

Fulneck School, coeliac, glutenfree, baking club

As Summer approaches and the weather is hopefully going to be favourable, fingers crossed. Baking club just got cooler.

This week William skipped out of baking club armed with a strawberry ice cream smoothie. He was one happy boy! Proud as punch, pink, sticky and grinning from ear to ear, he described what the group had been busy preparing.

First they cut the strawberries in half and placed them in the blender to break down even further. Next they added milk and finally the ice cream, (gluten-free in Williams case, which I provided). It was reassuring to hear that everyone was also well aware of cross-contamination.

WILL’S QUOTE OF THE DAY
Mummy, I got to put my ice cream in first because it is gluten-free!”

happy kids playing

I am loving that the school took William’s dietary needs into account. You hear so many stories where the school’s are inflexible, don’t understand etc.

So true Claire. I really want to show that even a simple recipe can be made at any school. I have heard so many stories where quite frankly staff are either ignorant to change or as you say inflexible. It is not good enough. Time for change.
