It’s beginning to look a lot like an Udi’s Christmas.

Last Christmas Udi’s sent me a wide variety of gluten-free products and I set myself a baking challenge based on the 12 Days Of Christmas which you can read all about here.

So, this Christmas, it was exciting to receive some new products that I had not sampled before as well as some household favourites. The intriguing and substantial box of delights included Cinnamon and Sugar Bagel Chips, Cranberry Walnut Granola, Soft and Delicious White Sandwich Bread, All-Purpose Flour Mix, some Udi’s branded ribbon for wrapping presents, a varied selection of festive recipe ideas ranging from Wild Mushroom & Parmesan Tarts to Christmas Cupcakes as well as a homemade Christmas cracker which my eldest two children enjoyed opening.

After much deliberation the children and I decided to make the Cinnamon Dipper recipe for breakfast (minus the chocolate dip), which is essentially French toast or eggy bread depending on your preference. Using the Sandwich Bread, this recipe made an ideal quick breakfast for all the family. We were preparing to go on holiday with a million and one things to do in the space of one hour, so I can verify it worked well amongst the pandemonium of organising a family of 5…picture the chaotic scenes in the film, Home Alone and you won’t be far wrong! This recipe would also work well using Udi’s Tiger Bloomer. Unlike some gluten-free bread brands, this bread is robust enough to withstand a soggy bottom when soaked in the egg mixture too.

Another recipe that caught my eye was the nachos, using Udi’s Peri Peri Tortilla Chips. These nachos, unlike so many savoury treats that wax lyrical about containing a hint of this or a sprinkling of that, are not shy of spice which I particularly like, but if you are not a fan of spice then the new Salted Tortilla Chips would work equally well.

The Sugar & Cinnamon Bagel Chips get the thumbs up in our household too, but this year I am going to save them for making sweet canapés over Christmas to share with family and friends. The Plain Bagel Chips have also proved popular at parties in the past as well as being squirrelled away in the suitcase to take abroad on holiday as they provide the perfect gluten-free blank canvas for a variety of toppings such as Parma ham, cherry tomatoes, basil and mozzarella.

Lastly, as someone who does not like milk and so rarely eats cereal, I thought the Cranberry Walnut Granola was lovely. The cranberries were plump and plentiful and despite not liking walnuts, the contrasting flavour steadily grew on me. The granola was one of the crunchiest I believe I have tried and all 3 children enjoyed eating this for a change.
For those that haven’t come across Udi’s before, they have now been in the UK for 2 years and their products are stocked in over 24,000 supermarkets. For more information on your nearest stockist, click here.
