Review: Kirsty’s Chilled Ready Meals.

Today has been another one of those typical crazy days flying from one place to another spinning plates, collecting the children from school and nursery, a quick change of uniform, half the fridge demolished by the two eldest and straight back out to the weekly swimming lessons. Familiar to many I am sure.

I love cooking from scratch but on some occasions, there are physically not enough hours in the day to fulfil my passion and get creative in the kitchen. Cue Kirsty’s.

We recently had the pleasure of being sent two of Kirsty’s ready meals which were Chicken Tikka Masala with Brown Basmati Rice and Spanish Chicken with Brown Rice. The Chicken Tikka Masala was generous in size, delicious in taste and was complimented with brown Basmati rice which made a refreshing change from the standard white rice often presented in a ready meal.

The second reason Kirsty’s gets a thumbs up from me is both meals were free from added sugar, artificial flavours and colours making the ready meals appropriate for the children too. The free from plus points extended further as they are dairy, soya and egg-free too and most importantly for us, gluten-free. There is something for everyone and certainly not free from flavour.

My five year old chose to eat the Spanish Chicken which was also accompanied with brown rice. He commented on the dishes saying that “they both looked really yummy and colourful”. Packed with a substantial amount of chicken, tomatoes and peppers, there was ample to share with his sister too. Devoured within minutes, I did not feel as though their diet had been compromised by a ready meal loaded with sugar, salt and fat and generally lacking in nutrition as many other ready meals can be.

Kirsty’s philosophy is “to produce high quality, delicious, nutritious and allergen free alternatives to a range of food products” and it definitely fits the bill. I would recommend popping a couple of these in your shopping basket for the freezer, perfect for those occasions when you are up against the clock as a busy parent.

The Kirsty’s range of seven ready meals include Moroccan Vegetables with Quinoa, Sausage with Sweet Potato Mash, Beef Lasagne with a Rich Bolognaise Sauce, Thai Chilli Chicken with Rice Noodles, Cottage Pie with Sweet Potato Mash, Chicken Tikka Masala with Brown Basmati Rice and Spanish Chicken with Brown Rice and are currently available in Asda, Sainsbury’s, Ocado, Waitrose and Budgens priced at £3.00.

Whilst Kirsty’s provided both ready meals, all opinions are my own and I have received no payment for writing this post.
