Food Revolution Day 2015

Food Revolution Day, Jamie Oliver, Food, Education, School

In a world where obesity is dramatically on the increase and sadly most shocking, amongst children. Statistics show that worldwide, there are more than 42 million children under the age of 5 who are overweight or obese. Now more than ever, it is important that we address this however and wherever we can. Food Revolution Day takes place today, Friday 15th May.

Brain child of Jamie Oliver, this is a global campaign to put compulsory practical food education on the school curriculum. Jamie passionately believes that by educating children about food in a fun and engaging way, we can equip them with the basic skills they need to lead healthier, happier lives, for themselves and their future families.  As a parent of 3 young children myself, this is an issue close to my heart. For the past few months I have been sharing ‘Will’s School Bakes’, a school baking club that takes place after school, to show the type of things he has been busy getting involved in with his little friends despite him having coeliac disease. From traybakes to milk shakes and crumbles to fruit jumbles he has proudly brought home a variety of bakes all made entirely by him and his enthusiasm for this group has certainly manifested at home too.
