Morrisons, The Village Fête and the School Pick Up Review!
The clock was ticking for the school and nursery pick up, but not before a quick cuppa to build up strength and a sweet treat to go with it! Well it would be rude not to wouldn’t it? Diving into my cake, I felt like I had been to a Summer village fête!
Morrisons FreeFrom Fruit Cake Slices taste absolutely divine. It took me straight back to my childhood of being in the Brownies and the annual fête that we all had to parade in. An abundance of cake on display with mismatched tea crockery, (I suppose they call that vintage now) and a brass band rumbling in the background.
Back to reality after my daydream and Morrisons had sent me a selection of their FreeFrom range that included Spaghetti, Pasta Spirals, Pizza Bases, Digestive Biscuits, Chocolate Buttons, Cherry Bakewell Tarts and my new found friend, the Fruit Cake Slices.
I am always dubious about buying ready made…well anything really, because baking and cooking is my passion. However, I cannot rate these cute little cakes highly enough. Sticky, satisfying and individually substantial, they are gluten-free and I would challenge anyone to tell the difference.
As a typical busy family, packing in way too many daily activities, after school clubs and that small matter of work that we try to squeeze in on top of everything else, pasta is one of the staple meals that we regularly turn to and eat together as a family midweek. I decided to make one of my old favourites, a smoked bacon, mushroom and tomato spaghetti recipe using the Morrisons FreeFrom spaghetti.
Having sampled many brands of gluten-free spaghetti before, I found this one to be one of the most memorable in a good way. There was very little, what shall I call it, “slime” that frequently appears with free-from pasta as it bubbles away and I thought the finished taste was great too. Not wanting to sound repetitive but this did not taste like gluten-free pasta either and all 5 members of the family devoured it and then some. The gluten-free Smoked Bacon, Mushroom and Tomato Spaghetti recipe can be found here.
I am thinking a picnic might be in order this weekend weather permitting with more of these homemade pizza’s made by the children using Morrisons FreeFrom pizza bases and maybe see what the local village fête is up to, aaah….
